Thanon Charoen Krung) - Thanon Charoen Krung was constructed by the order of King Rama IV in 1861, as part od his infrastructure development plan. It was the first road of the country built by European technology with the total length of 8.5 kilometres. It comprises two parts, first part started from Wat Prachetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram (Wat Pho) and ended at Damrong Sathit bridge, second part linked to the first part at outer of the city wall and ended at Dao Khanong sub-district. King Rama IV named the road Charoen Krung meaning prosper of the city. At the beginning the road was called New Road which provided modern convenient route for Bangkok people at that time.
