An antique wooden house with a leafy garden allows dining in a quaint setting amid a dark wood interior graced by rural touches. Ruen Mallika is housed in an historic early 19th century teak building, secluded from the bustle of the city outside. Service staff dress in period costume, bring back the ambience of an earlier era.

Ruen Mallika

The menu is a thick book illustrated with photographs, and includes health claims next to each dish. The food is typically Thai, with some excellent specialties.

Some good reds and whites comprise a modest wine list.

Ruen Mallika is a good opportunity to dine on an array of traditional dishes for a reasonable price.

Located on the 2nd floor of the Rembrandt Hotel, on Sukhumvit Soi 18, the Señor Pico Bar & Restaurant offers a tempting variety of traditonal Mexican dishes such as Fajitas, Carnitas, Enchiladas, and a range of south- of-the-border snacks - Bocados, Antojitos, and cocktails - Copitas. All dishes are supervised and guaranteed the traditional taste by Mr. David Cruz, the highly-experienced Chef flow in from Mexico.

The 88-seater Señor Pico Bar & Restaurant has a long history of bringing Cuban bands to Bangkok to play salsa. Candilejas, a four-piece Cuban band, currently performs six nights a week with a repertoire of salsa and Latin pop numbers, however the band will adjust their song list if they know salsa dancers are present.

If you want to combine good Tex-Mex food with a dance floor all to yourselves then Señor Pico could be just the thing, but expect a rather quite expensive night out and an early close, even by Bangkok standards.

This cafe restaurant is worth a visit if only to see the unique space, a former warehouse now a chic, modern interior, with large floor to ceiling windows, concrete floors, comfortable couches interspersed with marble-topped tables, and big white plates.

An advantage to such a space is that, unlike many downtown eateries, each table has plenty of room around it. Kuppa offers a good sampling of unique international fare, some with Thai inspiration, to satisfy both Thai and foreign diners, and it has a dedicated following because of its coffee (roasted on the premises) and its impressive desserts.

Pasta dishes are also worth a try.

A limited selection of red and white wines at reasonable prices. Fruit juices and nonalcoholic drinks are also available.

Kuppa, like a number of Bangkok eateries, has an art gallery as well.

The first and only true creperie in Bangkok, Crepes & Co is an oasis of air-conditioned comfort, which serves over 100 entree and dessert crepes. Crepes & Co was established in 1996 with a unique & original concept and has become a landmark in Bangkok's dining scene.

Popular among Bangkok foreign residents (and their kids), this is the place to satisfy that sweet tooth. The menu features traditional French crepes as well as more experimental options such as the very tasty Crepe Lasagna. Crepes & Co. serves them up light and fluffy and filled with any of dozens of combinations, both savory and sweet -- all of them delicious. They also serve good Mediterranean main courses.
