The 10 stadiums of the 2010 Football World Cup on TWIP

Even if you don’t watch football, you probably know that the 2010 Football World Cup is happening now in South Africa, this country famous for apartheid (before), Nelson Mandela, the criminality rate, the SpringBox and the Boers.

The games will take place in 10 stadiums in 9 different cities (2 stadiums at Johannesburg). But what are these cities?

Ok, I gave you Johannesburg. You probably also know Durban, Cap Town and Pretoria. But what else?

Now you don’t know, do you?

Luckily, TWIP is here! All the cities and all the stadiums are here.

Allez la France !

Mazars last night of the proms – October 29th, 2009

Mazars Last Night of the Proms promises a night of amazing musical talent. As the biggest British Chamber evening event of the year, it is also offers a significant networking opportunity. Fine music, fine food and wines and a spectacular fireworks display all add up to make this an evening that should not be missed.

Now in its 4th year John Moore – conductor, composer and maestro extraordinaire – who is flying in from the UK specifically for this event, the Mazars Last Night of the Proms is a highlight of the Bangkok social calendar.

John has just received rave reviews for his new musical presentation of The Bubble, a co-production by Shrewsbury School and the Severn Opera company that premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. The reviewers were ecstatic in their praise with one calling it “stupendous!”

On 29th October, Bangkok residents will get a chance to see John in action for themselves when he dons his Union Jack waistcoat for the second year running to act as the conductor and master of ceremonies of Mazars Last Night of the Proms.

Based on the event that has been staged in Britain for the last 140 years in Britain, the Bangkok version has all the traditional pomp and circumstance, yet in the totally unique setting of Shrewsbury International School on the banks of the Chaophraya River.

The event brings top classical music to a setting where it can be enjoyed both by classical connoisseurs as well as those who have had little or no previous enjoyment of classical music. The performance starts with a stirring rendition of the Thai and British national anthems and ends with the audience on its feet waving flags and demanding more.

The Combined Shrewsbury Proms Orchestra is made up of musicians from Shrewsbury International Symphony Orchestra as well as students and music scholars from other Bangkok international schools including Bromsgrove, Harrow, Patana and Regent’s. Competition for places was fierce and those selected have been undergoing rigorous rehearsals for many months. The Bangkok Community Choir will lead the audience in the singing of rousing British anthems such as Jerusalem and, of course, Land of Hope and Glory.

Two of the finalists from the 2009 Young Musician of the Year, a competition established jointly with the Royal Over-seas League Thailand and the Conrad hotel, will also be playing. Kantapong Rakbankerd (percussion) and Heewon Woo (Violin) were highly praised by the competition’s eminent judges. Heewon, a student at Shrewsbury, was further awarded a recording session with Chris Craker, head judge and former General Manager and Senior Vice-President of Sony BMG Masterworks.

Sponsors of this year’s event are Mazars, Rolls Royce, British Airways, Chatrium Hotels & Residences, Harrow International School and Market-Edge Asia.
