Drum Tower) - King Rama I had the Drum Tower built in 1782. The three-storeyed tower features a wooden red structure replicating the style of the tower in Ayutthaya period. Each storey houses a big drum which gives different sound to convey a different message. The first drum named Yam Phra Surasri to signal dawn and dusk, the second drum named Akki Phinat signals a fire alarm, and the third drum named Phi Khat Phairi sounds a signal warning when invaders attack the city. In the reign of King Rama III, the tower rooftop was modified from Thai style of mondop to Chinese style. Later, it was changed back to its original form in the reign of King Rama IV. King Rama V had the tower demolished for building Chao Chet Park. A new tower of the same style was rebuilt in 1982 in the occasion of 200th anniversary of Bangkok.
Neilson Hays Library) - Mrs. Jennie Neilson Hays followed her husband Dr. T. Heyward, chief of the Royal Thai Navy Hospital, to Bangkok in 1869. When the wives of Dr. Bradley and Dr. Smith established the Bangkok Ladies Library Association for the foreigners who lived in Thailand, Mrs. Jennie Neilson Hays was a co-founder of the association, devoted herself as a committee member in the library for 25 years. This library's building was built for the memorial of the love that Dr. T.Heyward had for Mrs. Jennie Neilson Hays who passed away in 1920. The library is a single storey building. The construction techniques that used to construct the basement of this building was the same as the Anantasamakhom Throne Hall, which was designed by Mr. Mario Tamango, an Italian architect who became the government official in the Royal Court of Siam during the reign of King Rama V. The library was managed by an entirely female management team, providing only entertainment magazines. It used the dewey system for buying and eliminating books from the library. This process is carried out every year by the committee. As for the very old books they are kept in the rare books section. The Rotanda Gallery is situated inside the library holds exhibitions by both Thai and foreign artists all year round. Surawong Road, Bangkok
