Pseudo: Sim100 - - 2008-06-19 :: Henri Dunant Road - This road starts from Rama IV road and is in between Thai Red Cross Society and Chulalongkorn Hospital, it passes Chulalongkorn University, Triam Udom Sueksa School, The Royal Bangkok Sports Club (Pathumwan Race Course), and Royal Thai Police, so it was originally called Sanam Ma Road (Race Course Road). The name Henri Dunant Road originated from Mr. Henri Dunant a Swiss business man who founded the Red Cross Society, it was set up to help humanity both during times of war or peace and did not consider races or political ideologies. The activities of the Red Cross advanced expanded and was set up as a Red Cross Society and included members from all over the world. Thailand applied to be a member in 1906 and the operative office was set up close to the area of Chulalongkorn Hospital. In 1965 which was the centennial anniversary of the International Red Cross, the Red Cross Society of Thailand took into consideration that the name Henri Dunant should be utilized as a public name that should be treasured. Therefore to reach the purpose set by Thai Red Cross Society and also because the name Sanam Ma Road (Race Course Road) which was closest to, and in fact, by the meaning of its name did not give a good feeling, therefore the Bangkok municipality announced on May 3, 1965 that the name of the road to be changed as Henri Dunant Road, this road os about 1.6 kilometers long.
