Pseudo: Sim100 - - 2008-07-09 :: Silpakorn University - Silpakorn University (Thai: มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร), Wang Tha Phra campus, is located on land which used to be the grounds of two palaces, Western Na Phra Lan Palace or Wang Tha Phra and Central Phra Lan Palace. Originally, King Buddha Yod Fa Chulalok the Great had Wang Tha Phra built as the Chao Fa Palce. In the second reign, Phrachao Lukyathoe Krommamuen Chetsadabodon resided in this palace by royal permission of the King. The fifth reign gave permission to Som et Chaofa Kromphraya Naritsara Nuwattwong to reside here until his death. Professor Silpa Bhirasri and Saroj Ratchataminmant had Praneedsilpakan school founted in Wang Tha Phra. It was under the Department of Fine Arts and offered classes in painting and sculpture to government officials and students. The school was supervised by professor Silpha Bhirasri, an Italian and it enjoyed continual growth until it was elevated to university status on October 12, 1943. Silpakorn University is the first academic institution in Thailand that teaches all branches of modern arts.
